Original: design size 4 inches wide x 6 inches high with hem-stitched edge,
24 stitches to the inch over two on 48 count linen with silk thread
Stitches used: cross stitch over two and over one, satin stitch
From the pages of a specimen or instruction book of
needlework from the National Female Model School, Kildare Place, Dublin, Ireland, circa 1820. The bud
and vine motif is often found on Irish samplers. This sampler as well as the other types of needlework
included in the book served as a model from which the teacher in training would teach other young girls needlework.
